ITS JUST MUSIC
Getting access to new music today is way more easier and faster than it was 15 years ago. With the advent of internet and mobile technology, getting new music is just a click and a few or more seconds away. No longer are we behind the rest of the world when it comes to hearing the latest releases.
A few years ago it would take a month or more until you can wrap your jam and peanut butter covered hands around a new album or single.
Even then you would not even have an original copy. A cassette copy would have to suffice that you dubbed from a friend, who in turn got it from a friend that got it from another friend. You could also mail order a few vinyls, cassettes or CD's from overseas or place a special order with your local music store.
This of course would cost extra, but you didn't mind as what you have ordered was good quality music that you wouldn't get anywhere. But with local record companies licencing deals these orders would become illegal. Rap and Hip-Hop music would become only exclusive to those few who had the right connections.
I remember that I used to beg, borrow or steal just to have the latest Master P or Too $hort disc. And that would keep me busy and happy for the next few months.
But the explosion of the internet and new technology has changed that. And today with all major music stores having online stores it has become the norm to get hold of your favourite recording artists album or single.
Then we move along to illegal and legal download websites where it will take you a matter of seconds to get hold of anything you want from Russian rappers Kacta to South African rapper AKA. The world is literally in the palm of your hands.
Gone are the days of a bad copied cassette tape making that hissing noise or cassette decks eating your away at your tape. Now its iPods playing back crystal clear sounds that you have acquired a few minutes ago.
Where are we going to from here? So far it looks like "music on demand" looks like the future. This is already up and running but limited to a few first world countries.
