Luckily at the time when this album dropped 20 years ago I did not have to tell my mum what the meaning behind it was
. . . DOGGYSTYLE!!!

As a teen the sexual position doggystyle was like the ultimate sexual position you could think of. It is every horny teenagers dream, The Doggystyle.

And then here comes a guy in his late teens from Long Beach California calling his debut album DOGGYSTYLE!

Over the years I have purchased over 10 or so of Doggystyle as I have lost, gave copies away or it was stolen from me. This album also one can say has been the soundtrack to a lot of peoples lives etc.

Recorded between January and October 1993. In an age where the internets were not as huge as it is now. We had to rely on magazines, radio, tv and word of mouth.

One of the most highly anticipated albums of the nineties, Doggystyle started a slew of copy cats who had the same laidback flow over gangsta funk beats. From Domino, Mista Grimm and Lil Half Dead. Record companies were looking for the next Snoop Doggy Dogg.

Everybody liked Snoop even old ladies. Everybody knew Snoop.

Due to the high demand for this album by all the record companies involved. It was never finished. What we hear today is unfinished work. When the Interscope demanded the album, Dr Dre mixed the album and added skits in 48 hours.

First week sales was a staggering 802,855 sales in its first week out. A record for a debut solo rap artist. Records were broken and weed was smoken.

In South Africa there was a games place called Smokin' Token'

The rest is history. Going on to sell 5 million units. Being Snoops highest selling album ever.

When the first single WHATS MY NAME was released it was the start of Snoop Dogg season.

The second single GIN & JUICE was the perfect song to make as a single. Smooth, catchy and laidback.

Until this day DOGGYSTYLE is considered as a classic. It was a classic even before they recorded it.

BOW WOW WOW YIPPEE YO YIPPEE YAY!
